Welcome!

I will promise you one thing, and one thing only. I promise to not write my life story on each recipe and restaurant that I post about. Instead, I will give you the abridged version here. Good luck.

It was a sunny day in south Florida on Tuesday, August 29th 19xx…. Gotcha.

I grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with too many cats and an older brother. My parents owned their own business and had an office in our home. I was fortunate enough because that meant they made their own schedules and always had time for us kids. One of my fathers greatest pleasures in life is good food. One of my mothers greatest pleasures in life is cooking good food. What a match. Elaborate, multi-course meals were the norm in our household most nights. Coming home from school I was usually assaulted with the smell of roasting garlic and onions and whatever else was on the stove. That might explain my obsession with garlic.

Fast-forward 18 years. I told you this was the abridged version. I moved away to attend The University of Alabama. Yes, that Alabama. Gone were the days of coming home to something delicious already on the stove. To combat the homesickness I had to learn my way around the kitchen on my own and fast, otherwise I surely wouldn’t make it. I started dating my boyfriend (now husband) pretty soon in to my freshman year and thank goodness, because he had a full kitchen. Not just a little dorm kitchen, but a full apartment kitchen. I hit the jackpot.

Now it was my turn to let someone else come home and be assaulted by the smell of roasting garlic and onions. Spoiler alert, he was in to it. Ten years later and he’s still in to it. There really is something to that saying about your heart being in your stomach, or whatever it actually says.

After college, we moved together to West Palm Beach, Florida where I got my first job as a Sommelier. This is a fun title for someone who knows a lot about wine, how to serve it, and what to serve it with. I spent the next 5 years working in restaurants and wine shops furthering my education on flavor and its profound effect on people. My happiest memories are around a table, with good food, good drinks, and good people.

We left the sun and sand of Florida for something a little different… a lot different… Oslo, Norway. Since we arrived in Norway, my accessibility to traveling ‘abroad’ has opened up greatly. This blog is an homage to these new travels, the food and beverages consumed, and the people met along the way. Now, you are welcome to dine with me at any time.
